Project Censored - Flashpoint in the Ukraine - 06/10/14

On the June 6, the Project Censored Show on Pacifica Radio Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips discuss the ongoing situation in the Ukraine by looking at a new book by Clarity Press edited by Stephen Lendman, “Flashpoint Ukraine: How the US Drive for Hegemony Risks WWIII.” They are joined by three of the book's contributors including the noted political scientist and author Dr. Michael Parenti for the hour, and interview segments with  Prof. Michel Chossudovsky of Global Research (Centre for Research on Globalization), and former Congresswomen and Green Party Presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney. Peter Phillips and  Mickey Huff, along with Nolan Higdon, also contributed to the volume with a chapter entitled: Ukraine Another Step in Capitalism's Global Dominance: Strategies and Power Inside the Transnational Corporate Class and US-NATO Global Empire.

 On the Project Censored show Mickey Huff with Peter Phillips interview author and scholar Allison Weir regarding her new book Against Our Better Judgment: The hidden history of how the United States was used to create Israel. Few Americans today are aware that U.S. support enabled the creation of modern Israel. Even fewer know that U.S. politicians pushed this policy over the forceful objections of top diplomatic and military experts.  For the second half of the show they discuss the recent developments regarding Edward Snowden and the corporate media and political establishment propaganda attempts to frame leakers and journalists as traitors; and they end the show in discussion with Aaron Good, Ph.D. student at Temple University, about academic freedom and the controversial dismissal of African American Studies Associate Professor Anthony Monteiro.

This Project Censored show features Mickey Huff in Studio with Peter Phillips interviewing Dr. Thomas Moore, the author of the new book “A Religion of One’s Own.”  Thomas Moore was monk for twelve years, and also an university professor, musician and psychotherapist.He has written several books including the best seller “Care of the Soul.” He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Syracuse University.

His second guest is Legal Scholar and Retired Judge of the California State Bar Court Lise Pearlman. She is the author of a book and pending movie regarding Black Panther party founder Huey P. Project Censored - Politics of Genocide and the 20th anniversary of the tragic mass killings in Rwanda in 1994 - 04/11/14

On the Project Censored show from Pacifica, Peter Phillips with guest co-host Ann Garrison discuss the Politics of Genocide and the 20th anniversary of the tragic mass killings in Rwanda in 1994. Their first guest is Robin Philpot a Montreal author of the new book "Rwanda and the New Scramble for Africa, from Tragedy to Useful Imperial fiction." Their second guest is Edward Herman professor Emeritus at Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and co-author of the Monthly Review Press book "The Politics of Genocide."

 

Herman argues that some genocides such as Kosovo and Rwanda in 1994 have been heavily publicized in the West to advance a specific economic agenda, eventually leading to a minority controlled government of pro-Western and pro-business Tutsi, while other genocides, such as in East Timor, have been largely ignored for the same reason. Herman and Peterson wrote that the Western establishment has "swallowed a propaganda line on Rwanda that turned perpetrator and victim upside-down....the great majority of deaths were Hutu, with some estimates as high as two million
