This week's Project Censored program focuses on the hazards of hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") and federal officials' attempts to downplay some those hazards. 
 

U.S. EPA officials denied last year that groundwater contamination in Dimock, Pennsylvania was due to fracking, although EPA's own scientists knew that fracking was the culprit. And, whistleblowers say, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson used a false name in internal correspondence about the Dimock situation. Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips interview Steve Horn, writer for www.desmogblog.com, discusses these stories. Then Richard Heinberg of the Post-Carbon Institute speaks about his new book "Snake Oil: How Fracking's False Promise of Plenty Imperils Our Future." Heinberg explains the hazards to water and air from fracking.

Mickey Huff in studio with Peter Phillips discuss the decision to drop the atomic bomb at the end of World War II, was it necessary as the official historical narrative suggests?  Guests  challenge that narrative and bring the conversation to another level. Huff and Phillips interview Rev. Nobuaki Hanaoka, Nagasaki bombing survivor; Professor Jacques Pauwels, author of The Myth of the Good War; and Andrew Phillips who talks about his 1984 interview with Wilfred Burtcher (one of the first journalists on the ground at Hiroshima after the bomb dropped).

Project Censored - 07/23/13

Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips interview two whistleblowers, Alicia Dabney and Lesa Donnelley, who filed sexual harassment complaints when they worked for the USDA Forest Service. Then they  take an in depth look at the accreditation process and the threatened closure of the largest community college in CA, CC San Francisco— speaking with independent reporter Rick Sterling and Wendy Kaufmyn of Save CCSF.  They conclude the show with educator and author Bill Bigelow talking about censorship in Indiana, the latest flap with former GOP Governor Mitch Daniels, now president of Purdue University, who tried to purge Howard Zinn's People's History text from the classrooms.

Project Censored Show on KPFA, Pacifica Radio hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips talk religion and social justice with Dr. Matthew Fox, author most recently of Letters to Pope Francis: Rebuilding a Church with Justice and Compassion; near the bottom of the hour- censorship at PBS involving the new documentary Citizen Koch, which looks at the influential conservative billionaire Koch Brothers, award-winning filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin tell the story; and the show concludes with a discussion on the annual summer encampment of the San Francisco Bohemian Club now taking place on the Russian River in Northern California.

On the Project Censored Show, KPFA Pacifica Radio, hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips interview author Dr. Paul Palmer on Zero Waste and offer solutions to the growing problems of waste management and recycling programs. During the second half of the show they interview  journalist and activist Sunsara Taylor of StopPatriachy.org who talks about radical feminism, recent censorship on women's rights issues (especially concerning abortion rights), and  radically transforming a patriarchal world by addressing the overarching problems of capitalism and oppression.
