They spoke about their new book, "United States of Distraction," a look at
the five decades of corrosive political and media changes which made it possible
for a candidate like Donald Trump to capture the presidency. They spoke at
the Hillside Club in Berkeley, California on October 22, in a benefit for KPFA-FM.

Facebook recently announced, "Facebook News," a partnership between the social-media giant
and established corporate-media outlets, including the New York Times. Does this arrangement
suggest an enhanced effort to keep independent journalism and nonconforming opinions out of social media?
